I. LIGHTING & UV PROTECTION
Silk fibers are sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, which can lead to color fading and fiber degradation over time.
-
Optimal Placement: Avoid displaying the artwork in direct sunlight or near windows without UV-filtered glass.
-
Artificial Lighting: We recommend using LED lighting with a low heat output and zero UV emission. Maintain light levels between 50 to 100 lux to preserve the vibrancy of the dyes and the luster of the silk threads.
II. CLIMATE & ENVIRONMENT
Silk reacts to fluctuations in the atmosphere. Maintaining a stable environment is the key to preventing fiber stress.
-
Temperature: Ideal conditions are between 18°C and 22°C (64°F – 72°F). Avoid placing the work near heat sources, air conditioning vents, or fireplaces.
-
Humidity: Maintain a relative humidity (RH) of 45% to 55%. Rapid changes in humidity can cause the silk to expand or contract, potentially affecting the tension of the embroidery.
III. HANDLING & CLEANING
As a one-of-one original work of art, the piece should never be subjected to standard cleaning methods.
-
Touch: Never touch the surface of the embroidery with bare hands. Natural oils and acids from the skin can permanently mark the silk. Always use white cotton lint-free gloves if handling is required.
-
Dusting: If the work is not glazed, any cleaning must be performed only by a professional art conservator. Do not use brushes, compressed air, or domestic vacuum cleaners.
-
Glazing: We recommend museum-grade, anti-reflective glass with at least 99% UV protection for maximum security.
IV. PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANCY
The Foundation of Contemporary Couture Art remains at your disposal for the lifetime of the artwork.
-
Relocation: If you plan to move or re-install the work, please contact our concierge team for specialized packing instructions or to arrange for a certified art handler.
-
Conservator Access: We maintain records of all materials used in your specific piece, which can be provided to professional conservators for future maintenance or assessment.
