"Forbidden City" — Contemporary Chinoiserie Side Table
The "Forbidden City" side table is a daring fusion of 18th-century exoticism and sleek, modern silhouettes. A cornerstone of the Forbidden City Collection, this piece serves as a tribute to the legendary Chinese tea pavilion at Sanssouci Palace. Designed by Alexander Anisimov (Alex Sander), the table bridges the gap between historical narrative and the avant-garde, making it a versatile masterpiece for both grand classical estates and minimalist high-end penthouses.
The table’s architecture is defined by four masterfully hand-carved figures representing the traditional tea ceremony. Sculpted from solid wood and finished in opulent 24K gold plating, these gilded figures are set against the deep, mysterious grain of premium Ebony veneer. This design philosophy extracts the playful elegance of Chinoiserie and transplants it into a contemporary framework, creating a narrative of cultural heritage reimagined for the 21st-century connoisseur.
