The Philosophy of Opposites
The composition is a sophisticated symmetrical grotesque ornament in the style of Mature Mannerism. At its heart are the divine twins, Apollo (Feb) and Artemis (Diana) — representing the eternal duality of Sun and Moon, Day and Night, Man and Woman. Feb-Helios is portrayed through the character of Nero, personifying the fierce, rising sun and the dawn of a relentless day. In the corners, grotesquely depicted servants of time hold vessels from which life slowly flows, a poignant memento mori counting the years allotted to us all.
Couture Craftsmanship
To translate Verkholantsev’s intricate vision into wool, this rug was entrusted to a Master craftsman with 25 years of experience at the Alexander’s Collection factory. The vibrant orange of the burning sun contrasts sharply with the cold turquoise of the night, achieved through the finest New Zealand wool. Every line reflects the precision of the original ink drawing, maintaining the Luxury Quality Standard that defines our signature series.
